چکیده

This paper presents an analytical approach for representing the flow through the glottis. Based on the polygonal line approximation of the coronal section of the glottis, the velocity field of incompressible, inviscid flow can be conveniently represented using the method of conformal mapping. In this method, the actual physical domain is conformally connected to the canonical domain configured as the infinite strip. Since the general form of analytic potential functions for the uniform flow and the flow due to a point vortex is known in the canonical domain, such flows in the physical domain can be derived by the connecting mapping function specific to the glottal shape. Simulation results were presented to evaluate the influence of a vortex pair placed at the supraglottal section on the stream line and pressure field of the uniform flow.

Steady Flow Through Modeled Glottal Constriction

The airflow in the modeled glottal constriction was simulated by the solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations for laminar flow, and the corresponding Reynolds equations for turbulent flow in generalized, nonorthogonal coordinates using a numerical method. A two-dimensional model of laryngeal flow is considered and aerodynamic properties are calculated for both laminar and turbulent steady flows...

Analysis of fully developed flow and heat transfer through n-sided polygonal ducts with round corners using the Galerkin weighted residual method

The Galerkin weighted residuals method is extended solve the laminar, fully developed flow and heat transfer of Al2O3-water nanofluid inside polygonal ducts with round corners for the constant heat flux and uniform wall temperature boundary conditions. Using the method, semi-analytical, closed-form solutions are obtained for the friction coefficient and the Nusselt number in terms of the radius...

The influence of glottal cross-section shape on theoretical flow models.

Physical and mathematical phonation models commonly rely on a quasi-one-dimensional flow model. The assumption of quasi-one-dimensional flow through a glottis with fixed length is analyzed for different cross-section shapes: Circle, rectangle, ellipse, and circular segment. A simplified flow model is formulated which accounts for kinetic losses, viscosity, and cross-section shape. It is seen th...

Simulation of shear bands using polygonal particles

The choice of particle shape representation is critical in the accuracy of the simulations of real granular materials. Here we present a method to simulate particle shape using polygonal particles. The method reproduces shear bands using different boundary conditions: confining walls, floppy boundaries and periodic boundary conditions.

Stress Waves in a Generalized Thermo Elastic Polygonal Plate of Inner and Outer Cross Sections

The stress wave propagation in a generalized thermoelastic polygonal plate of inner and outer cross sections is studied using the Fourier expansion collocation method. The wave equation of motion based on two-dimensional theory of elasticity is applied under the plane strain assumption of generalized thermoelastic plate of polygonal shape, composed of homogeneous isotropic material.  The freque...
